Living in Cherry Creek Springs
Home sweet home.
Recording and Reporting of Well Water Usage
In the western states, notably in the basins and drainages of the Colorado, Rio Grand, Arkansas, and Missouri Rivers, it has often been said that “Water is more precious than gold!” Cherry Creek Springs members moving here from the eastern states may be surprised to discover all wells in this area are required to have a totalizing flow meter that records all the water withdrawn from the underground aquifers.
Cherry Creek Springs is subject to several decrees by the State of Colorado Water Court that both authorize our use of water from the Dawson Aquifer and restrict how much the community and each lot may use on an annual basis. These decrees also require the Association to send an annual report to the State Water Engineer detailing the well water withdrawals by each lot.
Due to the state reporting requirements, our covenants require each member to record the water meter reading each month and to report those readings to the Association. The Association has adopted a policy that requires members to report their meter readings at least quarterly (for the state of Colorado, the Water Year is Nov 1 to Oct 31, so the quarters are Nov-Jan, Feb-Apr, May-Jul, and Aug-Oct), but members are encouraged to report their readings monthly.
Questions regarding water can be submitted to the Association Water Monitor, Mr. Kurt Miller via email at .
There are several ways for members to report their monthly water usage:
- The easiest method is to use the Water Report tool below. This tool enters the data directly into an online database and sends the member an email acknowledging receipt of the report.
- Send the required information via email to . The minimum required information is Lot #, Month, and Year being reported, the meter reading, and the number of horses maintained on the property.
- A Water Report form has been developed for those that wish to provide a written report that can be provided to a board member during a Board of Directors Meeting, or sent via the US Postal Service (7365 Paleo Way, Colorado Springs, CO 80908). The water report form is available at this link.
